Comment choisir son blazer selon sa morphologie Mackten

How to choose your blazer according to your body type - Mackten

How to Choose a Blazer Based on Your Body Type

A well-chosen blazer can enhance a silhouette; poorly chosen, it can instead make it look heavy or unbalanced. Contrary to popular belief, there is no universal "perfect" blazer—the right choice depends above all on your body type. Here is how to find the one that best highlights your features.

If you are rather slim or slender

A blazer that is too loose will overwhelm your frame. Opt for a slim fit, with slightly structured shoulders to add volume where it is lacking. Fabrics with a bit of firmness (wool, bi-stretch) help add structure without looking stiff. Avoid blazers that are too long, which will accentuate a slender appearance.

If you are rather portly or have a belly

The classic mistake is to choose a size that is too large to "hide" it—the resulting effect is the opposite: the garment looks tight and heavy. The right approach is a regular fit, neither too tight nor too loose, which follows the body without clinging. A two-button blazer with slightly structured shoulders helps balance the silhouette. Length also matters: it should cover the seat without excess fabric.

If you are short

To avoid shortening your silhouette, rely on a slim fit. A blazer that is too long visually shortens the legs. Solid, dark colors (navy, charcoal gray) elongate more than a print or a light color.

If you are tall

You have more freedom regarding cuts, but be careful not to accentuate the vertical effect. A three-button blazer or one worn with trousers in a contrasting shade helps break up the vertical line. Structured shoulders and fabrics with a good drape (heavier wool) avoid the "too thin, too long" effect.

If you have a V-shaped body (broad shoulders, defined waist)

This body type is the easiest to dress: most cuts suit you. Nevertheless, prioritize a blazer adjusted at the waist to emphasize this natural asset, without too much excess fabric around the chest.

Universal benchmarks, regardless of your body type

  • Shoulders: the shoulder seam should sit right on your shoulder, not before or after.
  • Sleeves: 1 to 2 cm of shirt should be visible at the wrist.
  • Length: the jacket should cover the seat, without excess fabric or an overly short effect.
  • Buttoning: the bottom button should never be fastened.
